Aquaform présente OLEDrian, une suspension sculpturale inspirée de l'œuvre de Piet Mondrian, alliant la géométrie des formes et la finesse de la technologie OLED.

" The art of Mondrian in the neoplasticism movement influenced [...] assumes that the world is governed by opposites – active and passive force, vertical and horizontal. What came to our minds was that illumination is also about opposition – all in all the game is about light and darkness." Aquaform

MUUUZ In your opinion, what should be the main assets of the perfect lighting ?

Wojciech Starowieyski Let's imagine a room without light. It is difficult to notice anything there, isn't it? Light is an incredibly important element of every interior – it can emphasize the strengths of the area or quite contrary – ruin the architectural or decorative sense. Additionally, it strongly influences the mood of the room users. Due to this reason, the perfect light should be of the highest quality : with a high colour rendering index not causing negative effects such as glare or pulsing. It is very important to place the luminaries correctly and ensure illuminance which is proper for the function of the lit room, depending on the effect we want to achieve. And here we get to the bottom line. Perfect light should be adjusted to the interior which it will lit, the needs of the users and functions which it is to perform.

MUUUZ What are the advantages of the OLED technology ?

W. S. The advantage of OLED light source is first and foremost the light emission which is of very good quality. What is interesting, OLEDtechnology, before being implemented in lightening, had been and is still used in electronic industry. What caused that the lightening market became interested in it? For example, CRI of the illuminated objects and lack of harmful UV radiation. What is more, OLEDlight sources can be placed very close to the illuminated objects because the temperature of tiles if extremely low. OLED panels emit light with the whole surface and not from single diodes as it is with LED light source. What is important is that the mode of light emission eliminates the unpleasant phenomenon of glare which is observed while using LED light source. The panels are extremely light and thin – their thickness does not exceed 1mm, which enables to play with form. Additionally, there are flexible panels available on the market. Let's imagine the possibilities which are opened by such light source.

MUUUZ Oledrian features a unique and sculptural design. Why have you chosen to collaborate with Piotr Jagiellowicz ?

W. S. The design process is a long and tedious way. Especially while implementing new technologies. As this awaited us while designing OLEDRIAN family, which is fully based on new light source., we were looking for a designer with passion to illumination. We were looking for a person, who on the basis of the experience in the scope of designing luminaires, would be able to look at the issue from many perspectives. With Piotr we had already cooperated earlier while designing Equilibra family. This cooperation showed that for him and for us, the connection of design and technology is important as an answer to the customers' needs. Focusing on experience of the end users and technological attitude decided that we began to prepare the next project together. Time showed that it was a good decision. The luminaire of Equilibra BALANS, which we prepared together, was awarded with Red Dot Design Award 2015, luminaires OLEDRIAN won iF Design Award 2016 as well as MUUUZ International Award 2016. Moreover, both projects were nominated to German Design Award 2017.

MUUUZ Oledrian is inspired by Piet Mondrian's work. How has his art been influencing the shape of the lamp ?

W. S. The art of Mondrian in the neoplasticism movement influenced the design of OLEDRIAN family. This movement assumes that the world is governed by opposites – active and passive force, vertical and horizontal. What came to our minds was that illumination is also about opposition – all in all the game is about light and darkness. Looking at Mondrian works of art we started to wonder what would happen if horizontal and vertical lines were brought into the third dimension. It turned out that OLED panels – incredibly thin and flat sources of light – were ideal for such an experiment. We exchanged lines into planes. Following the spirit of neoplasticism, we eliminated the needless ornaments. It allowed us to emphasize the qualities of technology: quality of light and illuminating with the whole surface. Research and Development Department prepared specially designed aluminum plates of luminaires that are only 6mm thick, where the sources of light are situated. In this way, the idea of oppositions showed itself not only in the vertical and horizontal planes of OLEDRIAN, but also in terms of illuminating and non-illuminating areas.

MUUUZ What would be the perfect place to display the Oledrian lamp ?

W. S. Oledrian is the luminaire with a characteristic mode of illumination. As it emits light with high dissipation, it will play its function best in the rooms which require delicate, soft illumination. In the hanging version as a luminaire for the general illumination it is perfectly suitable for the inhabited areas – living rooms, dining rooms or bedrooms. The sculptural form of OLEDRIAN is an additional attitude of the family. In connection with soft light, it can make a good solution for the decorative illumination, especially OLEDRIANwall light – both in terms of light and form of luminaire. In this case, the luminaire becomes not only the element emitting light, but also an important formal accent of the interior.
